Overview

What is the E-1 treaty trader visa?

The E-1 visa lets nationals of treaty countries enter the U.S. to carry on substantial trade between the U.S. and their home country. Trade includes goods, services, technology, banking, insurance and transportation.

"Substantial" means a continuous flow of sizable international trade, shown by numerous transactions over time, not a single large deal.

More than half of the business's international trade must be between the U.S. and the treaty country. E-1 is temporary and renewable, and suits established traders rather than new ventures.
